The 19th head coach Dave Gray brought
a new enthusiasm with the Broken Arrow Club, the Players of the
Week, and a stout 5-3 defense. David Acuna had three-fourths of
the rushing offense and three 100-yard games. It was a season
of dramatic plays: Acuna's opening 62-yard TD in the Homecoming
win against Malabar, Scott Oxley's last minute TD pass to Country
Edwards to tie New Philly, and Acuna's touchdown in the final
39-seconds of the season to defeat DeVilbiss. Arrow fans were
treated to three thrilling wins at Community Stadium. Even the
defeats, a blocked punt by Madison and a Dover field goal, were
nearly home victories. Doug Swaisgood and Mark Bush were the top
linemen, while MVP Dan Smith and Mike Fitz were the top defensive
backs. |
