Honorary Captains

The Ashland Arrow Football Alumni Association was initiated by Denny Humrichouser along with Head Coach Scott Valentine in the summer of 2002. By the beginning of the 2002 football season the organization had formed and initiated the honorary captain program for the home games. This program introduced four past AHS players prior to the beginning of each game. Information on their football experience and life successes was placed in each home football game program. These players were also invited to make a small speech at the Thursday night team dinner prior to each home game, which centered on their Arrow football and live experiences…by the end of the 1st year 20 players had been recognized.

On April 24th of 2002 past player and attorney Jack Vanosdall helped incorporate this organization.

At the second annual meeting this mission statement was developed: " To maintain and help nurture the tradition of Arrow Football, The Ashland Arrow Football Alumni Association recognizes past football alumni and staff and promotes the motivation and recognition of today's players." The following officers were elected and have maintained their positions for the past four years: Denny Smalley (67) President, Noel Watson (67) Vice President, Mike Brubaker (66) Treasurer, and Dusty Sloan (95) Secretary. These officers, with the help of Program Director Jon Shoemaker and other members during these past four seasons, have recognized over seventy past players and coaching staff from the last 50 years. Other goals accomplished have been the initiation of a player scholarship program and starting a film library of past Arrows Football games.

All past players, coaches and staff are included in this cost-free organization. The program provides honorary football captains with specially designed shirts and hats that are financed through donations. (Written by Noel Watson)
